About Laser Hair Removal
Shaving every other day gets old fast. Waxing? Painful and never as “permanent” as promised. And those ingrowns—don’t even get started. Laser hair removal isn’t just about smoother skin; it’s about less hassle, more freedom. At Vitalize Skin Clinic, we use the Candela GentleMax Pro®—a top-tier, Health Canada-approved laser system that works safely and effectively on all skin types. Whether it’s facial hair that won’t quit or body hair that keeps growing back, this treatment helps slow it all down—for good.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
Targets the root, literally
The laser flashes light that’s drawn to the pigment in your hair. That light slips down to the follicle—the part that keeps growing the hair—and kind of turns it off for a while.
Heat does the heavy lifting
Once the light hits the follicle, it converts into heat. That heat damages the follicle enough to slow or stop future hair growth without harming the surrounding skin.
It works best in cycles
Hair grows in stages, and the laser is only effective during the “active growth” phase. That’s why multiple sessions are needed—to catch each hair at the right time.
Gets better with time

#1 Dermatologist-Recommended Energy Device Brand
Why Choose The Candela GentleMax Pro For Laser Hair Removal
The Candela GentleMax Pro is an award-winning, advanced laser hair removal device widely proclaimed as the gold standard in professional laser hair removal. The device is trusted by dermatologists and top medical spa owners worldwide for achieving powerful results in hair removal. When considering a quality laser hair removal device, you can trust that with the GentleMax Pro you will receive among the best technology that the laser industry has to offer. Not only is the GentleMax Pro Health Canada and FDA approved, but it is clinically proven, backed by rigorous trials and half a century of success as a leading brand in the industry of medical aesthetics.

Our Device Is Highly Targeted To Your Skin Type, With Dual-Wavelengths
Among The Most Powerful Laser Devices In The Industry
The GentleMax Pro has among the highest peak power levels compared to many competing devices, delivering up to 80 J/cm² of energy as opposed to 30-50 joules per pulse on an average laser device, such as a diode. With more energy delivered to the hair follicles, we can destroy them much faster, reduce the likelihood of regrowth, and eliminate even stubborn hairs that low-powered devices often cannot pick up. Treatments are very swift with the GentleMax Pro, without the need for constant overlapping, and results are generally achieved within 6-8 sessions
Effective On Darker, Trickier Skin Types As Well As Lighter Skin Types
Darker skin types, including South Asian, Middle Eastern, Hispanic, Asian, and African American skin types, are naturally limited from receiving higher laser heat settings as opposed to lighter skin types due to the simple fact that laser targets pigment within the skin – which people of colour have more of! As a result, lower heat settings are used to prevent side effects such as hyperpigmentation or burns. However, less advanced and lower-powered laser devices also compromise on the ability to achieve satisfactory results, especially for people of colour. This is why you should always choose advanced laser technology, such as the GentleMax Pro, which contains the most effective wavelength for darker Fitzpatrick skin types – the Nd: YAG 1064 nm. In this manner, your treatment will not compromise between safety or results no matter what the colour of your skin is.

Which device does Vitalize Skin Clinic use for laser hair removal?
Vitalize Skin Clinic uses the Candela GentleMax Pro® device which is widely acclaimed as the gold standard for laser hair removal in the industry, trusted by dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and aestheticians worldwide. The Candela GentleMax Pro® is FDA, TGA, and Health Canada approved and considered one of the safest, advanced, and most effective technologies for virtually painless laser hair removal, suitable for all skin types. Best of all, the Candle GentleMax Pro® does not require gel like traditional laser devices, making it less messy and irritating to clients with sensitive skin!
Which skin type is laser hair removal suitable for?
The Candela GentleMax Pro® combines two wavelengths, the 755 Alexandrite laser and the 1064 Nd:YAG laser, to provide safe and effective treatment for every skin type as well asthinner and finer hair. This dual wavelength covers all Fitzpatrick skin types to ensure patients of all skin colours, including dark skin, can be treated safely.
How many sessions of laser hair removal will I need?
Typically, clients can expect results within 6-12 sessions. Every individual has a unique anatomy, skin type and hair type, therefore, the number of sessions needed may fluctuate per person. Some clients achieve desired results in fewer sessions, whereas others may need additional sessions. After each session, you should expect finer and sparser hair, resulting in permanent destruction to the hair follicle. As hair grows in cycles, it is important to consistently book your sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart in order to permanently destroy every hair follicle. Touch up sessions are recommended every 6 months to a year after treatment to maintain permanent results.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
While no laser on the market can guarantee 100% removal of every single individual strand of hair, there will be a significant and permanent reduction of hair by destroying the hair follicle at the root, using light and therapeutic heat. The results can be indefinite or last for years, and if the hair does grow back, it is much slower, finer, sparser, and less noticeable than it was to begin with. The Candela GentleMax Pro® is one of the best devices on the market for medical-grade laser hair removal and distinguishably comes with a small treatment tip to precisely target every hair follicle, even in the most hard to reach areas.
Is laser hair removal painful?
The Candela GentleMax Pro® provides a quick and painless or virtually painless hair removal. It has a cooling technology, Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), which allows for a comfortable and pain-free experience. You may feel slight discomfort in sensitive areas, which is often described as tolerable, and akin to a rubber band snapping on the skin.
Are there any side effects to laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is not an invasive procedure, involves a non ionizing safe form of radiation, and poses little to no risk. Side effects are extremely rare and may include redness, hyperpigmentation, swelling, or blistering and typically resolve within a few days. To minimize potential side effects, it is important to follow pre and post care instructions such as avoiding sun exposure, disclosing medical history, and refraining from using retinoids and acids for a couple days before and after your laser appointment.
Is there any downtime?
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive procedure and therefore does not have any downtime. However, it is important to avoid sunlight, UV light and tanning beds for 2-3 weeks after your appointment to prevent discolouration. It is also recommended to avoid exercise, hot showers, steam, and harsh cleansers for 24-48 hours after your appointment to avoid irritation.
What areas can be treated with laser hair removal?
Anywhere on the body and face where there is hair present can be treated with laser hair removal. Our Candela Gentlemax Pro laser is unique in carrying a very small and precise tip to get the most accurate results. However, hair which is red, blonde, or gray unfortunately cannot be treated with laser hair removal due to a lack of melanin which cannot be picked up by the laser, which relies on pigment to target the hair follicle.
Before Your Appointment
Before coming in for laser hair removal, shave all the areas to be treated, ideally 24 hours or the night before your appointment. Shower before your appointment and ensure the areas to be treated are clean and clear of any product including self-tanner, make-up, moisturizer, deodorant, retinol, acids etc. Avoid waxing and plucking 3-4 weeks prior to your laser appointment and avoid using AHAs/BHAs, retinoids and hydroquinone 1 week prior to your appointment. Consult with your laser technician if you are on any prescription medications as they may have contraindications with the laser technology.
Aftercare Instructions
After your laser hair removal appointment, it is recommended to avoid hot showers, steam, saunas, and exercise for a duration of 24 hours to prevent irritation and blistering. It is important to shield against sunlight, UV light, and tanning beds for up to two weeks after your appointment to prevent discolouration and scarring. It is also advised to avoid deodorant for 24-48 hours after treatment and hydroxy acids and retinoids for up to one week, to allow the skin to heal. Be sure to use a quality sunscreen daily after your procedure as your skin will be more sensitive to sun damage for up to 3 weeks.
