Freckles treated the same way
Sun Spots
Sunspot removal at Vitalize Skin Clinic is a highly effective treatment with state-of-the-art technology such as the Candela Gentlemax Pro, which can directly target unwanted benign pigmented lesions quickly and effectively with as little as 1-3 sessions. Individuals with light to medium skin types (Fitzpatrick I-IV) can benefit from this treatment, whereas darker skin types can still improve sunspots and pigmentation with chemical peels and targeted skincare products.
About Sun Spots
Sun spots, or age spots are flat, light to dark brown discoloured spots on the skin which commonly appear on the face, hands, chest, back, shoulders or other areas of the body which are exposed to sunlight. These marks vary in size, though are typically more visible than freckles, and accumulate over time, becoming more noticeable with age. At Vitalize Skin Clinic, sunspots are treated using the Candela GentleMax Pro, a Health Canada approved laser device which directly targets individual pigmented lesions without affecting the surrounding skin. Other treatments used to target sun spots are chemical peels.
How it Works
Sun Exposure Over Time
Sun spots—also called age spots—happen when UV rays trigger extra pigment production in the skin. Over the years, that pigment clumps together and shows up as small, dark patches.
Tanning (Natural or Artificial)
Whether it’s hours at the beach or time spent under a tanning bed, repeated tanning speeds up the formation of sun spots. The skin’s defense system goes into overdrive, leaving behind stubborn discoloration.
Genetics
Some people are naturally more likely to get sun spots, no matter how careful they are. If sun spots run in your family, your skin may react faster to sun exposure.
Aging Skin
As skin ages, its ability to repair UV damage slows down. What might’ve been a barely-there spot in your 20s can deepen and darken by your 40s or 50s.
